Mechanical Vibration Isolation

At Mason Ireland, we offer a comprehensive range of services to assist with mechanical vibration isolation, including the design, selection, and installation of anti-vibration mounts, 3D modelling to support BIM, and clash analysis to ensure a seamless installation.

We can provide anti-vibration isolation for various types of mechanical equipment, such as Air Handling Units (AHUs), Pump Sets, Extract Fans, Pipework, Ducting, HVAC, and more. Our team can support you in the following ways:

Selection and supply of anti-vibration products

Our highly knowledgeable engineers can calculate anti-vibration (AV) product location loads, select suitable products, and ensure compliance with acoustic specifications. Isolators can feature metal coil spring, Low Dynamic Stiffness (LDS) natural rubber elements, or a combination of the two. We can create anti-vibration schedules and collaborate with the contractor to determine the most cost-effective solution while considering available space and installation restrictions.

Designed to meet performance specifications

When there is a potential for vibration or noise disturbances from mechanical equipment on a project, an anti-vibration performance target is typically specified by an acoustic consultant. For example, a vibration isolation efficiency target in percent, the natural frequency of the isolator products in Hz, or a minimum deflection value in millimetres. We can take responsibility for meeting the project specification and have extensive experience in calculating the predicted isolation efficiency, natural frequency, and/or deflection of our products under load. We can recommend the most effective and cost-saving solution, depending on the target values, whether spring, elastomeric or a combination of the two is required. We consider all aspects before recommending a solution, such as isolator damping, supporting structure, system stability, or situations with multiple vibration sources that can significantly affect the outcome.

Supply and installation

In addition to supplying our products, we offer on-site supervision or a complete installation service. Our products are easy to install, and we provide installation guides, but experience is beneficial for ensuring proper installation. We are happy to assist. In some cases, isolators need to be installed after equipment is in place and commissioned, known as retrofitting. This is usually required when existing equipment’s vibration is causing a disturbance. We can review the installation, generate a proposal, and design bespoke solutions to integrate seamlessly with the existing installation, such as custom-made brackets, modified products, and complete support structures.

See below for a few examples of successful solutions here:

Building Information Modelling (BIM)

Projects now commonly use Building Information Models (BIMs) that incorporate a full 3D model of the services within a building or specific locations, which includes all services and equipment. We can insert our product selections into the 3D BIM to review available space and utilise “Clash Control” to ensure that our proposed products fit in place and can be installed with ease. We can also produce 3D BIM Skids to enable the contractor to pre-manufacture assemblies if beneficial. We can carry out pipe stress and thermal expansion calculations, which can affect the selection of isolators, guides, anchorage, and the need for flexible connections. This can apply to risers and industrial services.

The above outlines only a few ways in which Mason Ireland  can help with your project. If you require vibration isolation of any kind, please contact our team of friendly engineers.
